This report is about the Overseas Development Institute (ODI), which is a Non Government Organization who main focus is bringing international development and humanitarian issues to the forefront. For the past fifty years their mission has been to advance knowledge, shape policy and inspire practice globally within poor countries and making sure the poorest people are not left behind. ODI mission statement states, “inspiring and informing policy and practice which lead to the reduction of poverty, the alleviation of suffering and the achievement of sustainable livelihoods in developing countries. We do this by locking together high quality applied research, practical policy advice, and policy-focused dissemination and debate. We work with partners in the public and private sectors, in both developing and developed countries.” ODI advance knowledge by conducting cutting edge research on what is really happening in development countries and what works in poverty reproduction and humanitarian action. There research programs find answers to difficult questions, to what make humanitarian aid effective and how best to work within fragile states. They shape policy by not only sharing knowledge with policy makers and researchers, but activist, practitioners and the general public. ODI’s work is relevant and is what government and international organizations need to make well informed and effective decisions. However, the real challenge is making things happen, as research must be backed by action of those who are determine to reduce poverty and suffering worldwide. By inspiring practice, ODI helps people do what they need to do, with a network of government people working with other non government organization and ministries across the developing world.
