This is Not Goodbye encourages readers to look at goodbyes from a new perspective. Teaching us there will come a time to say goodbye, “thank you for showing me there will come a time when I can eventually let you go”. Inspiring and meaningful, but yet I think it opens up a new light on death. It changes the way to think about things and brings positivity in a difficult time. Persuading us to believe that life does not end at goodbye, but to remember and be thankful for the times spent together. Repetition is used with the words “Thank you” at the start of every line, “This is a Thank you,” “Thank you for loving me,”“Thank you for the memories.” Intensifying the meaning of the poem and pulls more meaning into the poem, developing new ways to view death. With “thank you” being said in every line, it makes me more cherish the time I spent with my Aunty. As it will make all readers of this poem grateful for the memories, they were able to create with their loved ones. Do You Believe in the Magic Inside You by Shilow, also uses repetition to bring more meaning into the poem. Every paragraph starts off with “Do you believe” making readers think more deeply about the poem. Making them ask themselves if they believe in the magic of life.
