Van Gogh used his own ideas, and the many colors put onto his painting show how he trust and believes in his own views of the night sky.
It is Van Gogh's amazing mixture of invention, commemoration, and observation combined with his use of simple shapes and drastically contrasting colors that has made the work so captivating to future viewers as well
as other artists. Van Gogh wanted to inspire and encourage other artist with his artwork. When Starry Night was first shown in 1889 at the Salon des Indépendants in Paris, which was an important place for artist to show off their work, Vincent told Theo that he wanted his work to inspire others to create night scenes better than he did. The Starry Night later became a true form of Expressionism and has become one of Van Gogh’s most popular pieces of art.
