For the past 10 years, companies have been busy focusing on social responsibility because the demand is high. Consumers are starting to think about the environment and working conditions in the factories. Consequently, companies now have to consider the conditions of the production, before Nike can have a good reputation. Consumers have never claimed as much as they do today from the producers of their product. However, Nike has restored humanity. It’s not okay, to buy clothes made by children or very low-paid workers.
Nike’s CRS slogan is “Innovate for a better world”
In the 1990's, Nike was accused of child labour, and they were on everyone’s lips. Suddenly it went bad for their brand, and it took some years for Nike to realize that it is very important to take responsibility for what was happening in the supply chain. Responsibility and sustainability are the intervening factors in the company. They chose to move focus from labour improvement to what they call “considered design”. The purpose of the idea to change the design, is so that they can cut down on waste and chemicals in the manufacturing process, which leads to a diminution of hazardous work in the factory. Mark Parker Nike’s CEO says: “Innovate for a better world” is more than just a slogan. It is the innovation of seeing challenges as opportunities, in other words to grow in a new way. Nike's strategy to make the world better is innovation. The focus is not only to produce nice products to the athletes and for the planet to improve labour conditions in the Nike factories around the world. When manufacturing their final products, they focus on the sustainability and they use recycled materials in their production.
