The list of non-grievable and grievable issues provided within the Georgia Department of Corrections standard operating procedures seems to be acceptable enough. For example, non-grievable issues include involuntary assignments and
matters over which the facility has no control over, such as court matters or state laws. Meaning, one cannot very well pursue a grievance issue pertaining to above matters listed if there is a separate appeal process for them. I do like the fact that the Georgia Department of Corrections have implemented an informal as well as a formal grievance procedure. Most grievances can be resolved by talking matters through. One does not know there is an issue to begin with if no one speaks up about it.
Grievance procedures are definitely a must and are put into place to be used successfully by an inmate to prevent little problems from turning into big problems, however, they are not there for an inmate to use frivolously. Meaning that filing a grievance because the lights are too bright, there are more red apples than green ones at lunch or because the toilet tissue is not soft enough is unacceptable.
