Care should be taken to limit driving or working machinery till the effect of the drug is known. Limiting the use of alcohol and other over-the-counter sleep aids is imperative. Use of this drug should be re-evaluated if used acutely for over 3 weeks or chronically for 3 months (Woo, 2016). As a side note, I personally do not give these types of drugs in the hospital setting to the elderly, unless they have previous taken them at home. Multiple times in nursing career, I seen severe delirium or confusion after the elderly have taken these. I always ask for Restoril, if the doctor orders Ambien or like type. This helps me take of the patient better and helped the patient get some real sleep. The next type of drug is the melatonin receptor agonists. These types of drugs are used to initiate the onset of sleep (Lubit, Bonds, & Lucia, 2015). Tasimelteon and Ramelteon are drugs in this type. These drugs use the MT1 and MT2 receptors. The MT1 and MT2 receptors are thought to be involved in the normal sleep and circadian rhythm cycles (Lubit, Bonds, & Lucia, 2015). Ramelteon has been known to cause angioedema and has no dependence issues when discontinued (Woo,
