Chapter 3 – Discussion Questions – Walmart Case

In my personally, Walmart is a socially responsible company. The facts I would want to know in order to answer this question are Walmart: * Firstly, people receive a significant financial benefit from Walmart such as investors receive dividends, consumers receive low prices. Besides, Walmart also creates many jobs for employees and many businesses benefit for its suppliers. In the other hand, Walmart also create communities benefit such as tax-paying corporate citizens. * Secondly, in 2005, Walmart launched major sustainability goals for its own operations, including becoming more energy efficient, reducing its carbon footprint, reducing wastes and packaging, and finding more sustainable sources for its products. * Thirdly, Walmart donated over five hundred million dollars in cash as well as gifts to charity in 2009. * Finally, Walmart created plans for its own sustainability rating system for the products it sells. This meant the company helped the Environmental Defense Fund to develop in cooperation. This led to the involving of over hundred thousand suppliers to report on the social and envirnmental impact of their products too.
The ethical issues that lead me to this above answer rather than other are Utilitarianism and Virtue-based.

In my personally, the managerial philosophy of Walmart is Walmart manages its corporation with the numerous of strategies such as cost-leader in managing human resources and supply chain, public relations and diversification in marketing strategy. This means Walmart aims to make cost-leader become to a company competitive advantage.

From the view of Walmat’s stockholders, the company’s management philosophy is acceptable. Because the company still ensuring itself that its performance is running well and the stockholders also receive their financial benefits without any prevent. In fact, the stockholders
