The Badlands of North Dakota is mysteriously beautiful to both the eye and the soul. One of these reasons is because of the wildlife. The roaming Buffalo, the howling wolves and the endangered Whooping Crane are some of the wonderful examples of the North Dakota Bandlands wildlife.
Today, I will focus on three out of five animal groups that live in the badlands - Amphibians, Mammals and BirdsWe will also include an exclusive section- endangered animal, such as the Least Tern. I hope you have fun learning about these animals.
Amphibians
The Tiger Salamander, which is a carnivore, lives from 12 to 14 years. The Plains Spadefoot Toad? They live up to that age plus two years. The Northern Leopard Frogs live up to 12 years. I'd say in "frog years" one year would be thirty frog years, and 7 dog years. That's crazy. …show more content…
The Woodhouses Toad has a diet of insects as due Boreal Chorus Frog.
The American Bullfrog is a very well known amphibian throughout the country. There are many other ones around the world such as the edible bullfrog of Africa.
Mammals
I will pick four animals from my list as it would be boring just to list them all.
There are 2 foxes that live in the Badlands: Red and Swift, and Red is super common while the other is very rare. Foxes are well-known for their bushy tails.
Pronghorns, a type of ungulate, are the fastest mammals in North America. The average rate speeed of one is 30 miles an hour. Bet predators can't get up to that. That's speedy.
This is a hair - raising fact about the American ! As you can see in my introduction, these are also known as just simply Buffalo.
Birds
Did you know that Eagles use to be endangered but thanks to laws made 40 years ago, populations of them are
increasing.
Peregrine Falcons are (yay) Cheetahs of the bird world but faster. The speed is 200 miles an hour. Isn't that cool?
"Caw, caw, caw" is the sound of American Crow. These birds are not carnivores. They are omnivores.
Oh, but "hoot hoot" is the call of the Great Horned Owl. They love mice and other rodents.
Endangered Animals
Whoop it up!!! The Whooping Crane is named for it's sounds. Too silly!
Black Footed Ferets have a silly name for their group. a business.
As you can see, the animals of the North Dakota Badlands are very wonderful. Thank you. The end.
