1. Significance of Title:
The significance of the title A Midsummer Night’s Dream is that there is a lot of supernatural intervention and effects in it. The weird and often unexplainable situations created by the supernatural are often explained by the characters saying that what happened was as a pleasant dream they experienced while they dosed off in the summer.
2. Information about the Book: This play was written by William Shakespeare and is a play this is classified as a fantasy, comedy, and romance. Shakespeare wrote the play during the mid 1590’s while in England. This play was also written during the Renaissance and the messy love triangles and love complications within the play can be contributed to Shakespeare’s messy relationship with his wife, Anne Hathaway.
3. Conflicts: There are a few major conflicts within the play. The first is that Helena loves Demetrius but Demetrius loves Hermia instead of her. This causes many problems and Hermia ends up following Demetrius into the forest in search of Hermia and they are confused with Hermia and Lysander by the fairies. Another conflict within the play is that Hermia loves Lysander but her father says that she can only marry Demetrius, commit to a life as a nun, or die. Because of this Lysander and Hermia run away in an attempt to be together but only more obstacles come once they run away. Another conflict is that Titania and Oberon are in dispute over who should have a young Indian boy who Titania was looking after. Puck also creates another conflict when he confuses Lysander with Demetrius and charms the wrong man to love Helena. These are all external conflicts.
