His poems contain layer upon layer of depth and meaning. One of his most famous poems, featured in the Outsiders, is titled “Nothing Gold Can Stay.” This poem is a perfect example of this, as line upon line, stanza upon stanza, is symbolic of many things in life. To me, the poem symbolizes a few circumstances that relate to real life. First, the author is trying to say foremost that nothing good can last forever. In life, you will have items and people you love without a doubt. However, through lines such as “Then leaf subsides to leaf” and “So dawn goes down to day”, you can tell that these beloved aspects of your life are blessings that come and go. Sometimes people might die, treasured items may get lost or break, etc. In a similar aspect, the poem also can mean that nothing will BE the same after things change. Your opinion of things, the way you view others, can change, especially with age. People like your old friends will not stay the same either, as they may change as they grow up. After reading the Outsiders, I realize how much this poem actually means to me. It is something that I will definitely remember when faced with a trial, and I will remember what it meant to Ponyboy and Johnny, too. My family is like this, too as each member is different and unique. As an example, take my brother Haaziq. He’s relatively tall kid for age, skinny, and quite the extrovert (dabbing wherever he goes). No one in my family is like Haaziq. I’m short, much more chubby, and I’m really shy. My dad and I like video games, while my mom and brother do not. Also, Haaziq and my mom love fruits and vegetables, while my dad and I prefer not to eat them.
