The Rich and the Rest of Us by Smiley and West, was written as a sort of call to action against poverty and the loss of the middle class. The authors ask readers to examine their own lives and the lives of others to see the damage that lack of access to education, the decline of the middle class, and the new working poor has. Write a thesis driven 4-5 page essay in which you decide if being poor is a person’s choice. In your argument, you must include:
•Your claim on who you believe is responsible for the burgeoning poor class.
◦Provide supporting evidence for your claim from at least 3 academic outside sources
•Who Smiley and West believe is responsible for the booming poor class and how they make their argument
