grows. Reasons for social networking vary depending on what the users’ interests are. It can be used for promoting businesses or getting word out about particular companies and other things. This is not just done on the internet, nowadays people make apps for their business or stores so that it can be even more convenient for people to go on and gather information about them. Most social networking sites are used for the purpose of meeting new people or also connecting with current friends or family online, for example Facebook is the top used social media site because you can add friends and communicate with them freely. Social networking has many aspects to it. When you first begin you answer basic profile questions and add a picture, it also might come with the options of a theme and music which gives users a chance to show a bit of their personality. Then there are groups and friends that you can connect with by beginning discussions on similarities. One of the most popular networking tools happens to be blogging. A blog allows you to post about any thoughts or pictures that you want to share, any followers that like or agree with it can “like”, “favorite”, or “reblog” it. Although social networking can be fun and useful when it comes to connecting with other people in an easy and comfortable manner, there also can be a lot of important risks that people need to be aware of when starting social networks. Since users tend to put important details of themselves in their profiles such as phone numbers, addresses, schedules, social plans, etc. it makes it easier to be stalked by strangers. Along with being stalked, that type of information being open can lead to identity theft by simply replicating the pictures and information that’s accessed. One of the most famous online frauds happening in today’s world is catfishing. This is when someone creates a false profile of someone they claim to be in order to conduct an online relationship, because the two people never see each other in person it’s easy to pretend to be who you say you are. However there isn’t only dangers but benefits as well. A social networking site can be a good way to make connections with people with similar interests and goals. Just as social media provides another avenue for making friends, it also makes it possible to renew old ones. It allows communication to be easier by talking to multiple people or people of distance by a single click. Also, because kids are becoming more familiar with the internet it gives them a chance to learn about new and upcoming technology. It’s also been proved that kids who have access to online communities have a bigger variety of ideas and opinions because they are not subject to a specific group of people. Therefore, meeting new people and reconnecting with old friends and family members and communicating each others experiences and ideas are major benefits of social networking. You should be careful with what you do decide to express online however because many employers and school administrators make their decisions based on how people portray themselves on their social media accounts. So when I am applying for jobs or schools I look back on my accounts to make sure there is nothing to make me look bad or associate myself with something that would cause me to not get what I am applying for. This graph symbolizes the way users prefer to connect with other people on social media and it is shown that Facebook is the current most used site and by personal experience I can agree with this.

Summary:
Social networking is an easy way to connect with other individuals in a business, community, or personal way.
This is usually done online over the internet with sites that allow you to add friends and express yourself freely. Most people use social networking (like top ranked Facebook) to meet people and converse about similarities and interests. There are many risks in doing this like being stalked or catfished, because your online information is never really private. But there are also benefits, such as being open to new people, ideas, opinions, and technology that can expand your education. But be careful about what you post because everyone can see it, and what you say portrays who you are to people who are going to employ you or accept you into their schools. The internet can be used in a positive way if social networking is done safely and
appropriately.
Reflection:
This project has taught me a lot about social networking. I’m not usually a big user of social media except the occasional Instagram update or twitter browsing but I don’t use blogs or Facebook and other sites. However, even though some of this information was new to me, like that Facebook is the top site and about strategies that businesses use by promoting themselves on the internet. But I still knew most of it like the risks and the reasons people use it, and also that employers tend to look on media accounts to make decisions of whether to hire someone.
