Cross curriculum priorities require more background knowledge of other learning areas and often need a different range of pedagogical approaches that a specific teacher has not previously used. For this reason, ensuring the creation of learning opportunities with students can allow them to gain that deeper understanding that the Australian Curriculum outlines. In this essay, three specific lesson examples will be given, each of which will have been drafted with the Tfel framework in mind (DECDS, 2014).
As teachers, it is imperative, especially when attempting to incorporate a cross curriculum priority like Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures, that any pedagogy chosen for a particular lesson, fosters deep understanding by the students and also connects their learning to the students’ lives and aspirations.
