Questions: Many local governments in the United States operate public libraries that provide books, reference materials, Internet access, public meeting space, genealogical assistance, and other information/education services at no charge. Answer the following questions:

1. Are the services of these local libraries pure public goods? Why or why not?

It is my opinion that the local libraries are not pure public goods. They are considered a common-pool goods which have a public characteristic and exclusion is non-feasible with competing and exhaustive use because when used it becomes unavailable to others. In its natural state may not be valuable to others, but when used it becomes valuable to the others when used (Mikesell, 2014).

2. What government functions are these public libraries seeking to serve?

They assist with ensuring that all of its citizens are able to receive services from multiple outlets.

4. What library services should be free and what could be subject to a charge? Why?

It is my opinion the meeting rooms should be a charge, late due books. The reason meeting rooms and late dues are to be charged this should help with the cast of the upkeep of the library and supplies that are not covered within the libraries budget.

5. What would be the concerns raised if many services were made available only on a charge basis?

The concern is that we as a nation have not fully recovered from the meltdown in 2006. Prices of goods and services continue to rise and people are not able to afford food, electricity, gas, and rent, water the basics of life which lead to a shift of poor, middle-class and then the rich, now it’s the poor and the rich. Right now there different types of public services being offered if makes it not as visible to those that are not receiving the

The Sonoma State University Library has many non-student individuals visiting campus daily who could benefit from the library’s services. For example, a high school is located on the SSU on campus, Oakmont Retirement community members attend free lectures, and neighbors who live nearby visit the campus for its scenery and concerts. Increasing library usage by promoting services to these individuals would have multiple benefits for the SSU library. As more individuals return to the library to use services, more staff are needed to create a stronger, more efficient library team, which also provides jobs for members of the community. Promoting library services to a wider audience…

Why should we pick you: Well, I will dedicate my time and effort into this server and try and help new users all the time; I am normally always on the computer and if I am not, that means I'm at sports practice or doing a project/HW. And I've been playing minecraft since I was 8 and I have tons of experience and I think I can use that to the best of my abilities towards helping the server. And I used to be a hacker myself and I know a lot about hacks and I could also use that to spy on hackers and punish them for disobeying the rules; and with that ability to spot hacks easily, I think that will benefit the server greatly. Also, I would like to become a Helper because I would love to be apart of this community and help the server become less-toxic and just help the server in everyway possible that I can to the best of my abilities. Also I want staff because of my skills at being a moderator.…

The uprising of globalization, marketization, and privatization had bring significant changes the long-held political and economic beliefs. Governments and social sponsors have been propagating that social institutions—be they hospitals, schools, colleges, and libraries—become self-sufficient if they are to purposefully work and demonstrate their relevance and competence to their clients. Institutional excellence will now have to be achieved through the arm race of technologies rather than through rules, regulations and controls.. Librarians and information managers, therefore, are being asked to generate revenue to become self-sustaining as much as possible.…
