Nurse In Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet
In the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, the character that I disagree with the most is the nurse. In this play the nurse does multiple things that offend me including rambling on, changing her mind to do what's easiest and being deceitful. The nurse’s character loves to ramble on and talk about things that are irrelevant. For instance, when Juliet and her mother were talking about how old Juliet is, the nurse jumped in and started a long-winded speech on how Juliet is 14 when she could have just been direct and said Juliet is 14. (R and J 1.3.18-49) I believe that I am a relatively patient person, however I really don’t like it when people can’t just get to the point. I feel this way because when you just get to the point it eliminates
confusion and leaves less room for interpretation. Another reason why the nurse offends me is that she always takes the easy way out of everything. When Juliet is faced with the problem that she has to marry Paris when she's already a wife, the nurse goes from helping her marry Romeo to telling her that she should forget about him and marry Paris. (3.5.213-225) This irritates me because she is supposed to be Juliet's friend and she doesn’t really care about Juliet's happiness, she only wants to do what will be trouble-free. When I was little and my parents were fighting over custody my dad only wanted more time with my siblings and I so he wouldn’t have to pay my mom more money. He was only thinking about himself and want would be easier for him when he should have been concerned with what we want and need. Last but not least, the nurse has a tendency to go behind the Capulets back and to things that are dishonest. For instance, the nurse knows that Lord and Lady Capulet want Juliet to marry Paris but she goes behind their back and helps Juliet marry Romeo. (2.4.92-198, 2.5.1-78) I have 0 tolerance when it comes to dishonesty for the obvious reasons that I don't like people going behind my back. If someone were to go behind my back and do something that they know is wrong and deceitful it would take a very long time to regain trust in that person. To sum up, I disagree with the nurse in Romeo and Juliet because she is dishonest, Cowardly and self centered.
