other, set goals, and agree on a means to achieve the goals” (De Leon-Demare et al., 2015, p.632). A major concept in this theory is transaction that defines the transmission of values, aspirations and wants between nurses and patients. These are goal related human behaviors that are obvious, where the nurse and patient share frames of references, institute a reciprocal relationship, and negotiate mutually set goals. Transactions are purposeful interactions made by human beings to communicate with their environment to achieve goals that are valued. When transactions are made stress and tension is reduced, which facilitate growth and development. Disturbance is one of the key element of transaction. Goals are accomplished when nurse patient transaction occur. According to King’s theory there is a positive correlational relationship between the presence of transactions and patients’ perspectives of trust and satisfaction as outcomes of the NP–patient relationship. This study was conducted to describe the interactions between NPs and patients in the primary care setting by using King’s nursing theory of goal attainment. The study found that application of King’s theory exemplifies respect for patients and places importance on information exchange, goal setting, and patient-centered care. Therefore, this theory can be used by NPs as well as me to guide NP-patient interactions. Therefore, NPs can be more reflective and patient centered in their practice (De Leon-Demare et al., 2015). Watson’s caring theory also can be utilized by nurse practitioners as it helps to provide holistic care to patients.
