Job Description: Registered nurses (RNs) educate patients and the public about many health issues, and offer information and support to patients and loved ones. According to the Registered Nurses Occupational Outlook Handbook, RNs treat patients, educate patients and the public about various medical conditions, and provide advice and emotional support to patients’ family members (2008). Registered Nurses also educate patients and family members on how to deal with their illness or injury and further educate about their after treatment home care needs.

I would also like to further my education and plan on one of USF’s master degree programs in the nursing field.
Special Skills Required: According to the Occupational Handbook, RNs should be “caring, sympathetic, responsible, and detail oriented” (2012). In addition they must have leadership skills and be able to efficiently assess patients’ conditions, and decide on whether or not any additional discussion is necessary. Lastly, RNs need to be emotionally stabile and able to cope with human distress, crisis and other strains (2012).
Why I selected this career to research: I chose this career to research because this is the professional pathway I have decided upon. Additionally, the projected job growth for registered nurses is one of the largest numbers of all occupations. I also have a personal reason which is to help my mother who was recently diagnosed with MS. I feel my past experience and education along with completing the nursing program will aid me in my journey. Also, I plan on specializing and continuing my education after I am in the field and I have a better understanding of where I want to explore. I have finished all perquisites for PHCC’s associate degree program in the nursing program and I am now working on finishing all of USF’s perquisites for their Second Degree Sequence in nursing program. My goal is to educate not only myself but others about health
