My desire to pursue a career in health care is greatly influenced by its unlimited opportunities for career development and the desire to impact another person’s life positively. As a kid, I always had a burning desire to become a nurse or a medical doctor but my parents’ influence and their perception of the engineering profession while in Nigeria lured me away. I trained and practiced as a Materials Engineer back in Nigeria, where I worked as a research and development officer for five years. However, coming to the United States created the turning point in my life. I searched for engineering jobs unsuccessfully for many months, and none was forthcoming despite availability of many job openings in nursing and healthcare related fields. In order to confirm my readiness to pursue nursing as a career, I entered a Practical Nursing program at the Wilbur Wright College in Chicago. At this time, I was still driving cab to support myself, while I dropped it completely upon graduation and passing LPN board examination.…
NCLEX tests for minimum technical competency for safe entry into basic nursing practice. Passing rates should be high across all programs preparing new nurses. This exam does not test for differences between graduates of different programs, measure performance over time, or test for all of the knowledge and skills developed through a baccalaureate program.” (Rosseter, 2012, p. 1) After successfully passing the exam, registered nurses, both associate degree and bachelors’ are able to enter the work force at the same entry level. Many associate degree nurses question why they should pursue a bachelor’s degree, when they are offered the same pay and benefits as bachelors prepared nurses. The difference becomes…

After leaning about each concept in Nursing 201 I have become more competent than before about the profession of nursing in areas such as evidence based practice, patient centered care and many other areas. I think after learning about patient centered care and the nurse-patient communication I am better prepared to interact with patients. Some things that I find to be especially helpful are to not ask close-ended questions or anything that will result in a simple yes or no, use general leads, use silence and to paraphrase and reflect what the patient says.…
Being in the medical field for the past ten years, I have seen the growth and changes in the medical field. When I began my nursing career as a medical assistant, I noticed many other nurses continuing their education to be able to have greater hands on approach in nursing. This opened my eyes to the endless possibilities that a nurse can do, whether it’s with direct patient care or being a resource to patients and other nurses around. After completing my RN in May of 2015, I decided that I really enjoyed being a mentor and teacher to other nurses. That is why I am continuing on with my education in hopes to one day receive my Master’s degree in Nursing and be able to utilize the knowledge and skills that I build, to educate patients. I still…
Although nursing has changed over time, there are still an abundant amount of requirements and qualifications, working conditions, commendable salaries, elongated days on the job, future needs, my interest in the career, and also an interview with a CRNA. I have always wanted to go into the medical field and serve as a doctor of some sort. Therefore, I believe that a certified registered nurse anesthetist is a job that I would be willing to commit to as well as enjoy. I am very excited to see if it will be possible for me to pursue my dreams of becoming a certified registered nurse anesthetist. I know that as long as I keep aiming high and never give up, my dreams can become my own…
My passion for nursing began when I first shadowed a Family Nurse Practitioner at Mansfield Methodist Medical Center earlier this year. After spending my first week I could already tell that nursing is a highly demanding career that brings new challenges every day, but with it comes many rewards and a real sense of job satisfaction. It is through my work experience and knowledge gained from my undergraduate coursework that I have developed a desire to become a family nurse practitioner. Interacting with clients of all backgrounds and education levels has given me the desire to advance my knowledge and develop my educational skills so that I can more efficiently educate my surrounding population.…

There are many accomplishments in my life of which I am proud, however there are two for which I am especially proud. Those being, having the opportunity to play varsity shortstop in high school, and having good enough grades to be nominated for, and to be admitted into, the National Honor Society. These accomplishments make me proud because they are goals that I was able to set and accomplish for myself. These are successes that not everyone can say that they have achieved.…
