There are many issues here, whilst the patient did agree to have his photo taken, he was recovering from a medical condition. Therefore, was he of his right mind when he made the decision and was he told that it would be uploaded to a public social media site. There are also additional visible faces in the back ground and none of those who’s faces appeared in the photo gave their permissions. The patients in the background have had their privacy violated and now their faces are on a social media site for others to see. So in the scenario it was not only the man’s privacy that was violated but also that of all who appeared in the photo. This is a breach of the professional standards and guidelines as stated on Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, Statement 5 “Nurses treat personal information obtained in a professional capacity as private and …show more content…
Nurses should always seek patient consent from the patient when they are requiring or receiving care before that disclose any information. A nurse should use their professional judgement concerning the need to release certain details and must have consideration to the interests, wellbeing, health and safety of the person who they are looking after.
Posting anything about patients, violates the core value of responsibility in maintaining the patient privacy and confidentiality. Before posting anything about patients online you must consider the motivation behind doing so. Nurses must maintain patient privacy and confidentiality at all time and in all media as such must refrain form commenting about clients or patients they encounter or the health services they provide to people on social media
