role. I find that that if you don’t manage your time you can feel overworked and overwhelmed. During a shift it is important for you to reprioritize your nursing tasks to ensure that you are able to keep up with your task. However, my nursing 417/ 418 nursing courses increased my knowledge on the community and the leadership aspect of nursing, but it was a challenge while incorporating study time for my comprehensive final exam.
During nursing 417 broaden my knowledge on the community aspect of nursing, during clinical I was able to visit health clinics, WIC clinics, schools, and hospice care. Each one facility taught me a lot that I may use in my nursing career. For instance, in the schools I learned the nurse’s roles as a school nurse. Also, in the school I was able to learned carbohydrate counting for students that were on insulin, which was an interesting skill for me to learn. Not only did I learn all the great things about community nursing, l was able to gain knowledge on the leadership aspect of nursing in the nursing 418. This course increased my knowledge on the managerial leadership styles, manager duties, and learning how nursing establish relationships with the
staff. Furthermore, areas that I need improvement in the upcoming years in my nursing role is learning to be confident in my skills and my role as a nurse. By doing so, I will start by shadowing a strong nurse that is very confident in her role. By shadowing the nurse it will increase my knowledge and confidence in the nursing profession. I believe as a new graduate I need at least a year to feel comfortable in my role. In my first year I plan to strengthen my organization skills, prioritizing the care of my patients and, establishing time management. Though, my five year goal is to become a nurse practitioner, therefore I have weaknesses I need to work on to establish that goal.
