Wetlands provide significant economic, social and cultural benefits. Like primary products such as pastures, timber and fish and support recreational and tourist activities. Wetlands also help reduce the impacts from storm damage and flooding, maintain good water quality in rivers, recharge groundwater, store carbon, help stabilize climatic conditions and control pests.

Despite the fact that wetlands area has got importance as mentioned above still communities living around the area seem to be less aware of the significance of the wetlands and little has been done in terms of the research to identify the problems facing Nyumba ya Mungu wetland. There is high pressure on the wetlands where people conduct different unsustainable activities like dumping site.
