Obama's Gun Ban
[Obama 's Gun Ban]

The reasons I am against Obama’s gun ban is as follows. The Second Amendment states that the people have the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. When the government steps in and starts deciding what kind of arms we can and cannot keep, or what we cannot bear that is an infringement on our rights
I will cover several reasons why are gun rights should not be infringed upon by Obama’s gun ban His ban targets the wrong weapon to begin with, most weapons used in crimes in the United States is the handgun not the assault rifles. According to the FBI Uniform Crime Report shows that 8,583 homicides 6,220 were handguns ("Crime in the," 2011).
So by the FBI’s on research assault rifles are not the problem, so ask yourself why are they going after them with a vengeance? Banning handguns will not work either, your just stopping law-abiding citizens from buying them. Criminals will always have access to weapons no matter what the bans says. As an ex deputy sheriff his ban frightens me. I have never taken an assault weapon off a criminal, but plenty of handguns and a large number of them were stolen. Stolen from people who legally bought them. Stricter gun laws is also not the answer to this problem, some of the cities that have strict gun laws have the worst gun crime in the states (Detroit, Chicago, Baltimore.)
Criminals in those cities have nothing to worry about, they know that if the rob someone or break into a house the only gun they have to worry about is the one they are carrying.
Response time for the average law enforcement officer is thirty minutes, I’m not sure your understanding what I just said its THIRTY minutes. We live in the country so its longer response time for us, I for one am not going to let someone come into my house and harm ANYONE in my family and the Second Amendment gives me that right. You hear plenty of horror stories about assault rifles but let me share a good ones with you. 2010 a

The Assault Weapons Ban of 1994 was never able to truly ban assault weapons because it did not ban actual weapons, rather it banned cosmetic and ergonomic aspects found commonly on firearms intended for recreational purposes as well as assault weapons. Such aspects as a bayonet mount, a pistol grip protruding conspicuously beneath the stock and folding or collapsible stocks were addressed while rate of fire or power of the round fired were not. While the frequency of "drive-by bayonettings" dropped dramatically, the sale of true assault weapons did not. Common shotguns and deer rifles were being pulled from the shelves because of a pistol grip or folding stock while rifles capable of firing 30 high velocity rounds in 30 seconds were being sold in unrestricted amounts because they did not have the banned cosmetic aspects. This fact alone made the ban ineffective.…

The author of “The Truth about Assault Rifle Bans,” starts off by listing out his reasons on why the assault rifle ban should not pass. The author’s main focus of the article was to dispel the illogical reasoning the government has been stating about assault rifles and large capacity magazines. Any citizen who supports the use of assault rifles can concur with the arguments that author has stated.…

The role guns play in our society has long been a controversial topic for the past few years in the united states. There are those who believe that guns do not belong in the hands of citizens and there are those who believe that guns are the foundation that protects our rights and liberties stated in the Constitution. There are too many leading factors as to why there should not be any stricter gun control laws. Some of these factors are that they go against our fundamental rights of self defense, give too much power to the government, and could potentially increase crime rates in the united states.…

Every Time there is a violent crime involving guns the media and public leaders blame guns and not the person accused of committing the crime FBI conducted an experiment and people were likely to be killed by a handheld object five times more than a rifle. Banning guns will affect only the law abiding citizens not criminals. Criminals don't follow the law that's why they are called criminals. If you're going to outlaw guns then might as well ban everything on market that can potentially hurt people. Gun laws in the U.S. should not be restricted because…

Government assumes that if society confines gun control that criminal activity will be reduced, however, offenders generally aim for victims who are unarmed. This would make it effortless for the criminal to assault a bystander while it leaves the victim vulnerable.Controlling weapons will not keep them out of felon’s hands. Each individual has the entitlement to protect themselves against unjustified acts. Righteous residents would have a sense of security knowing that firearms could be carried legally for his or her own protection and safety. A decrease in rifle sales, along with ammunition, will damage a state’s economy. Aside from criminal abuse, firearms are valued for friendly competitions and hunting purposes. Individuals who possess guns are put to a challenge to see if they can handle true responsibility. Besides regulating firearms completely, there are other alternatives to resolve gun…

    Ban on "Assault Weapons"

Firstly as someone who has owned and used many firearms for many years it bothered me greatly how many people seemingly thought that by prohibiting the ownership of these particular firearms that there would be a reduction in gun violence when there is no empirical data to support that claim. Over the previous two years there have been two mass shootings in Aurora, Colorado and Newtown, Connecticut which caused uproar in the political climate surrounding these firearms. The argument proposed against these firearms was an emotionally charged one that targeted these rifles in particular because of the fact that they can possess higher capacity magazines and that they have cosmetic features that can resemble military style weapons. The argument was that these firearms are more lethal and that in the hands of the wrong person can cause greater devastation than other firearms however the proposed ban conveniently failed to mention that less than 2% of all firearm crimes are committed with rifles and let alone “assault rifles” and that of this 2% many are self-inflicted. Another is that the biggest mass shooting in the United States wasn’t even with an “assault rifles” or even a rifle, it was with a pistol.…

I'm not totally against gun control, as I do believe there should be laws in place to restrict the sales of guns to criminals and those who have mental issues. Gun control statistics and perceptions though, are skewed by the media as they seldom report on anyone who successfully defends themselves with a gun. I do believe that the total banning of guns or restrictions put in place to keep those who are legally entitled to carry guns, are ridiculous. Every American should have the right to defend themselves if the need arise and by taking away their right to own guns you are leaving them…

There are several strategies that can dramatically reduce cases of gun violence. First, there are no reasons for citizens to purchase any type of semi-automatic or assault weapons. Instead, they should only be able to purchase handguns for protection purposes. Allowing citizens to purchase assault weapons only translates into providing support for people that have wrong intentions. Because these weapons are easily available, people who intend to cause harm can obtain one and carry out their plan. This is why it is very crucial to ban citizens from purchasing weapons that can inflict substantial damage. Although handguns can also cause great damage, they are less…

    Gun Control vs. Gun Rights

Gun control and gun rights have been an issue that has been debated for decades. Whenever there has been a mass shooting of any magnitude, it seems that the debate heats up even more. Consideration must be given as to what the benefits are of these gun control laws. Gun control laws must also be written as to not violate the Second Amendment of the Constitution as well. There have been many studies accomplished to determine if gun control laws actually do reduce the amount of violent crimes. These studies have discovered that there is no link between gun control laws and violent crime reduction. Even though most individuals have their different views on gun control, most seem to believe that the current laws do not have an effect on violent crimes. The hypothesis of gun control does not have an effect of reducing violent crimes was tested and the hypothesis is supported by the data collected within this thesis. The data used was collected from studies by other individuals, a survey of the public opinion, and other statistics recorded from previous years of violent crimes.…

    Banning Assault Weapons

The issue of banning assault weapons and large capacity magazines has been debated for years, but has never been discussed with such urgency as it is now. The issue is the banning of assault weapons in our society. Are we the kind of country that allows and encourages its citizens to own weapons of mass destruction? The moral issue we face is banning ownership of these weapons to ordinary citizens while protecting their rights under the second amendment of our Constitution. Considering the bloodshed and death that assault weapons cause in the hands of citizens and criminals, it seems to me that assault weapons do not have a place in our homes and society. It is important that the Congress of the United States pass a federal law banning the manufacture, sale and importing of this kind of weapon and large capacity ammunition magazines to people who are not part of our Armed Services or Law Enforcement agencies.…

As seen in other countries, enacting legislation to ban most firearms in our country could help solve the issue (the government could buy them back, increase the scrutiny of the gun manufacturing industry, etc.). The access to firearms would go down, and in turn, one could predict that gun violence would go down as well. On the other hand, the problem could also be addressed in a more indirect way. Instead of focusing on the guns themselves, focus on other possible underlying causes such as concentration of poverty, mental illness, and inequality. Additionally, as discussed above, the complexities and ambiguity of the US legal system absolutely contribute to the difficulties we have with gun control. Reform this system (by adopting one standard of scrutiny, forcing courts to define the scope of the Second Amendment, etc.) and laws could become more black and white. The problem with the options described here, and many others politicians and researchers have proposed, is the almost-guaranteed pushback. No solution will ever make everyone happy, but in order to work, it does need a…

The gun control laws do not solve the real problem which is the gun owner. Even if we have strict gun control laws that doesn’t mean the crime rates will go down or the school shooting will stop. If a criminal wants to kill someone they don’t have to have a gun to go through with it. It is just as easy to grab a knife or make a small bomb. Most criminals that want to shoot and murder people already have lengthy records and wouldn’t be able to pass a background check if they tried to purchase a gun legally. And even if the criminal does have a clean enough back ground to purchase a gun, one study reveals that most of them fear purchasing a gun legally because they know that it could be easily traced back to them. Instead the people we should be trying to stop are buying their guns on the black market. Most of the criminals that were interviewed during the study even distrusted so called internet sales on guns because they feared they were sting operations and they’d wind up trying to buy one from and ATF…

A woman recently had her home broken into, and she fled to the attic . The intruder eventually made his way up to the attic and broke into the room, where only the mother’s 6 or 7 gunshots stopped him in his tracks . Having a semi-automatic weapon with a reasonable high magazine capacity saved that woman’s life. The high capacity of an AR, along with it’s light weight, accuracy and accessories make this an awful nice weapon to have in the case of an emergency. Banning assault weapons isn’t going to save lives, it will only disarm or disadvantage the law obeying citizens and help the criminals who will have weapons no matter what. The reason to own an assault weapon is for protection ,recreation and self defense.…

Should the mere fact that criminals committing crimes with the use of guns infringe the national right of the innocent to possess guns. This is a question that arouses everywhere and no matter which way it is viewed the controversy will always go on. "A gun is a mere tool that can be used for good or evil. Our country is based on the belief that man is good until he or she is proven to be otherwise."(Harris p.2) This means that only a few people are committing crimes with uses of guns and why completely remove them from society. Therefore, we should strenuously protect the rights of free men and likewise prosecute and punish the criminals who abuse the rights of others. The problem with gun violence is associated with the child's atmosphere. Moreover, we need to educate young children about responsibly handling guns and educate them to respect life and the life's of others. The movement of gun control exploits every celebrated act violence and offsetting the hundreds of thousands of cases in which guns are used as defensive weapons to save live and property of the innocent. Moreover, guns do more good that bad. This issue completely contradicts the Second Amendment which states: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the rights of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."…
