An Ergonomic Assessment is an examination of the injured workers’ workstation; focusing on posture, keyboard use, physical work demands, environmental factors as well as the equipment and workplace design (RehabManagement, 2013). Through this assessment the OT can support the successful return to work of Ms Blogs by ensuring her workplace is designed to minimise any discomfort or aggravation whilst she recovers from her injury (Lahmi, Shahnavaz, & Jazani, 2004). By implementing these ergonomic principles it helps to “prevent injury, re-occurrence of injury and increases productivity” (RehabManagement, 2013).
Throughout this assessment Ms Blogs reported pain, as a result of prolonged and unsupported seating. As sitting at her computer forms a vital component of Ms Blogs’ job description, it is important to focus on this occupational performance issue (ipar, 2013).
