Oedipus Search For Justice Essay

The quote,”life is a search for justice,” links very well with the protagonist of the novel “Oedipus Rex”, Oedipus. Throughout the novel he is known for taking every possibility, no matter if dangerous or not, just for the sake of getting justice for his city, Thebes, and the people inhabiting it. Oedipus was a very respected king at the city of Thebes. When he found out about all of the infertility, diseases, etc., he tried to do everything within his power to change that around. That by itself shows the type of person that Oedipus was. He wanted justice for his beloved city and would do anything to get it. He knew that for there to be justice, all the disease and infertility, both in crops and on women, should vanish. He always saw the priest along with many children praying to the gods nonstop. Which ultimately ticked him off since what he thought was needed wasn't to pray, but to go and take action. This is one of the many reasons he decided to go after justice. He was shamed by many for his selfish acts. Even though his intentions at first were very noble and admiring, he slowly drifted off into something not so hero-like. His change of point of view startled many, but it is very common to see something like this. He lived his life like a king after defeating the Sphinx, putting every citizen before himself since that's what his duty was. So in another point of view, him changing his perspective is admirable to many. It shows that even though he is in such a high power claiming that he completely serves the people, he is also a regular human being who cares about themselves aside from his citizens. It shows his vulnerable side after only showing his brace face for the city’s well being. It shows that he is just like any other, a human
