Christian organization which helped refuges transition to America, provided aid to the Mawi’s family by finding a sponsor who would provide housing, furniture, medical treatments, and schooling. When first Arriving to America in Chicago, they spent the first few months in a motel until a sponsor was found to provide them with a house. After months living a in motel, a sponsor was found – Bethel Presbyterian Church. The family was quite surprised at the size of the house and could not believe that it was theirs; however, the family rented to the upstairs level of the house in order to afford rent.
