Offer Of Reconciliation
I hear what you are saying and I understand your view on supporting the British Peace Commission Offer of Reconciliation. I do, however, still have some concerns with this proposal. I believe that with everything the crown has instilled upon us these past few years, they should not rule us any longer. I disagree with the various taxations, control of our ports, and implementation of British soldiers on the streets without representation in Parliament. Based on John Locke’s ideas, a community is formed “by the consent of every individual” (Locke 113), which Parliament has not followed. Under the conditions of the Offer of Reconciliation, we will be able to have colonial representation and govern ourselves, therefore, I do not think it is necessary
for England to remain in control of us. This peace offering is beneficial to Great Britain, thus why would we want to submit to another country if we can sustain ourselves?
