To Drill or Not do Drill
It is not easy question regarding whether America should attempt to drill its way out of dependency on foreign oil or to push hard for alternative energies. Many considerations need to be examined; environmental concerns including global warming, employment, big business, and monetary issues including the trade balance, foreign policy, and special interest groups.
An article by Stephen L. Baird titled Offshore Oil Drilling: Buying Energy Independence or Buying Time? Looks at both sides of the issue. Though I do not put much faith in astrology I do find that I possess many of the Capricorn traits. I have often been labeled as being negative, but I defend myself as being a realist. My biggest peril is locking myself into just one way of thinking. While writing this essay about drilling for more oil I found it to be a much more complex issue. There are some extremist organizations like Greenpeace (www.greenpeace.org) that would have all the oil exploration immediately halted. While I understand their viewpoint, I do not often approve of their methods. I do believe this country does need to wean itself off of oil, but there also has to be alternatives in place before America can do so.
