This report describes four OLAP tools. The four tools that I have chosen for this are: Pentaho – Open Source Tool Cognos Business Objects SpagoBI Pentaho – Open Source Application “The Pentaho BI Project is an open source application software for enterprise reporting, analysis, dashboard, data mining, workflow and ETL capabilities for business intelligence needs” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentaho). The Pentaho Business Intelligence Suite provides reporting on OLAP analyis, dashboards, data integration, data mining and a business intelligence platform that have madde it the worlds leading and most widely deployed open source suite. Using Pentaho BI Suite omits software licence fee’s, providing support, services and product enhancements via an annual subscription. Pentaho offers flexible deployment, which includes: A complete integrated business intelligence platform Individual out-of-the-box products Embeddable components for use by Java developers Pentaho also has professional customer services that are knowledgable and on-hand to offer support to companies that have purchased the Pentaho software. They have experienced consultants around the world, public and online training with professional certification options, and OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturers) for company’s that installed the Pentaho technology. “The Pentaho BI Suite uses various licenses to distribute software and documentation, to accept regular contributions from individuals and corporations, and to accept larger grants of existing software products. These licenses help us achieve our goal of providing reliable and long-lived software products through collaborative open source software development” (http://www.pentaho.com/license/).
