ASSIGNMENT 1: HARD ROCK CAFE: OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT IN SERVICES
From the Global Company Profile of Hard Rock which is mentioned in the text, we can see that Hard Rock Café is a food & entertainment business chain that is into cafes, hotels, casinos, live music venues, a venue for view a collection of legendary music memorabilia, and a store to buy their brand of merchandise. They are a business that is currently running successful with the help of over 400 employees who strive to deliver an experience to customers that is in sync with its brand. For Hard Rock Café (HRC) to be a successful chain, 10 key successful Operational Management strategy decisions that has been applied are the following:
Product/Service Design:
Over the years, Hard Rock Café being in the service industry, is primarily a food chain that has evolved from being a general theme based entertainment restaurant, to a restaurant that is participating in a new experience economy. Recognizing that their target customers do not just want a meal, but want an unique audio visual experience. Their operational strategy in delivering food, merchandise, hotels, music and memorabilia is to ensure they package it is an experience while maintaining their quality standards globally.
The fact that the customer is king, to ensure they match the changing demands/needs of the customer, the staff schedule 15 minute meeting intervals to meet daily/seasonal changes in requirements. Also their having an invaluable inventory of memorabilia, HRC makes sure this rotated periodically across its branches and along with being able to purchase merchandise at the outlets, customers can view their memorabilia and purchase merchandise online on their website.
To finally deliver the packaged experience, they have over 400 well trained staff, who maintain the quality and make sure the keep their core values and brand essence intact globally.
