Many Americans use drugs to make them happy or ease the pain. They use a variety of drugs legal and illegally. Society needs to recognize the rapid increase of antidepressant and opioid use in the world. America has seen a rise in the usage of antidepressants and opioids in America, primarily due to the cause of depression and Americans trying to escape the real world and their problems. As a society need to realize the rapid increase in the taking of antidepressants and opioids and bring awareness and decrease the rapid increase.

People taking Antidepressants ages 12 and up has increased by 400% since 1988 ("Astounding increase in antidepressant use by Americans.").In recent research it is said that "1 in every 10 Americans takes an antidepressant" from 2005- 2008 antidepressants were the third most used prescription drug taken in America("Astounding increase in antidepressant use by Americans."). "Women are two and half times more likely to take an antidepressant" Women that are ages 40-50 are 23% more likely to take an Antidepressant this percentage is higher than any other age or sex ("Astounding increase in antidepressant use by Americans."). They are probably more likely to take an antidepressant because they are going through menopause at these ages. Now only 14% of white Americans men and women take an antidepressant compared to the 4% of black Americans and only the 3% of Spanish Americans("Astounding increase in antidepressant use by Americans."). One-third or less of the people living in the united states that take an antidepressant have actually seen a mental health professional. That means everything higher than one-third Americans are taking an antidepressant just because their doctor put them on it or they are taking it without being prescribed it. One story about a singer and how she fell to addiction has recently serviced. Celebrities are humans too just because they have an abundance of money doesn't mean they do not have feelings too. Most of the celebrities are addicted to drugs and some of these addictions have led to ending their careers or even ending their life. One big example is singer Whitney Houston who overdosed on cocaine and prescription pills. Just like Houston, one singer was following in those same footsteps.Natalie Maria Cole was born on February 6, 1950. Natalie's father was Nat "King" Cole her father was a famous singer("Natalie cole"). Having famous parents can be difficult they could not always be there or they try to follow their parent's footsteps and the pressure becomes too much there is a lot of pros and cons when it comes to having a famous parent or parents. Nat "King" Cole later died when Natalie was just 15("Natalie cole"). A couple years later her mother got remarried and they moved to Massachusetts ("Natalie cole"). As she grew older she began to follow in her father's footsteps.
