According to the Organ report “About 4,100 transplant candidates are added to the national waiting list each month. Each day, about 77 people receive organ transplants. However, about 18 people die each day waiting for transplants that can 't take place because of the shortage of donated organs”(Organ). I feel that it is important to educate people on organ donation because first, we don 't have enough donors and second, because we can never have too many organs. When they ask you to donate an organ because you are the perfect match for a patient, they will contact you and see if you are up to donating the organ necessary. “The success rate is around 80 to 90 percent, and one out of every nine donors that die are over the age of 65” (All).
Organ donation benefits everyone especially the patient. Donating organs can benefit everyone involved. First, it is literally a life altering event to the person who is receiving the transplant. It gives them a second chance at life, and also can allow them to live a better quality of life. “One donor can save the lives of eight people and better the lives of up to fifty people” (Statistics). The donor’s family can cope better knowing that their loved one is “still alive” in someone elses body. On many different occasions, donor families and the individual receiving the transplant have become very close to one another. Also, several factors go into ensuring the patient 's safety. The factors include: severity of illness, time spent on waiting list, and
