15 years ago, Alibaba is only a small company founded by a group of 18 people. Nowadays, Alibaba has been grown as a Chinese e-commerce empire across electric commerce, finance industry and wireless industry who also owns 10 subsidiary companies. Besides, the most important resource perceived by Alibaba which called Alibabaer, employees of Alibaba, has been grown to 24,000 people (February, 2014).
In the same time, as a untraditional company, Alibaba has established a strong company organizational culture based on a shared mission, vision and value system as the cornerstone of the company and its subsidiaries. They respect the spirit of entrepreneurship, innovation, and focus on meeting the needs of their customers. According to the founder, Jack Ma (August,2013), Alibaba’s organizational culture can be summarized with four simple words: openness, transparency, sharing, and responsibility.It is thank to the organizational culture, Alibaba has launched a revolution in many industries. According to George and Jones, organizational culture is an important means through which organizations coordinate and motivate the behavior of their members (George, J.M. and Jones, G.R. Understanding and Managing Organizational Behavior, 2012, P526). Organizational culture construction is indispensable for the development of Alibaba. We might even say the organizational culture is Alibaba’s lifeblood. From the view of Alibaba’s HR supervisor Yang Lu (2014), internet industry is an industry that there is only one place, and that's first place, no one can just live off their past gains. In this case, bottom-up innovations is the most effective way to keep active, behind that, Alibaba’s organizational culture is openness, transparency, sharing, and responsibility which sets its employees free to innovate.
