Explore the representation of at least ONE intense human relationship in Othello, evaluating its significance in the play as a whole.
Ultimately, in this Shakespearean drama, it is the representation of intense human relationships that captivates audiences and in reference to the relationship between Iago and Othello we can clearly identify the basis to which composes a significant human relationship. These basic characteristics of human relationship are love, loyalty and forgiveness, without these basics the audiences wouldn’t be able to capture the intent of Othello and Iago’s relationship in retrospect of their owns society. Using these core components of forming a relationship, Othello is able to portray an intense connection within both Othello and Iago, in turn captivating the audience in a story of manipulation and love.
Love is not only a core concept in the basics of these intense human relationships but a main theme in this play as a whole. In reference to Othello we can see that he only wants to be remembered for the good deeds he has done, he feels his only crime is to love too much, but throughout this play it isn’t love which causes his demise but revenge which seems common among both Othello and Iago, tying their connection in an intense human relationship which captivates the Audience. It is seen in this play that most relationships are formed under mutual characterisation, so in analysing the relationship of Othello and Iago it is perceived that their ability to love too much of something or someone is what causes both their downfalls in turn portraying only to the audience the love in which they feel for others is what brings them together in their intense relationship. This therefore captivates the audience by giving them the insight of personal characterisation before the characters themselves have figured it out.
