In this age of rapid change, the human society is progressing at an astounding pace on various fronts. Yet at the same time, people are confronted with many problems, a serious one of which is the shortage of fresh water. A study from International Water Management Institute(2005) Shows that 1.8 billion people lack access to clean drinking water. The issue has drawn widespread attention because water plays an essential role in the survival of all living creatures. This essay will be of value to show such terrible situation had been happen, and give the public a warming.
This essay intends to explore possible causes of this phenomenon and then analyze propose effects of world water scarcity and, thereby awaking the public 's awareness on water shortage. In order to achieve this aim it will attempt to answer the following questions, firstly what are the main reason of water scarcity, secondly what are the effect of water scarcity in the world.
This essay will begin by looking at several reasons which cause the water shortage , it will then look at the lack of water will give human some effects in their life.
The cause and The effect
As we know, the earth might be a blue planet.(Human Development Report 2006 P.134) and the ocean covers more than 70 percent of the earth’s surface, and it is common knowledge that seawater is salty and not directly drinkable. Only less than 1% of water can be used for our daily life. A famous singer, Bob Marley, says "you are not missing your water until your well runs dry." Although, water is an infinitely renewable resource --nature water cycle can make water evaporating to cloud and cloud returning water as rainfall to the ground--, unfortunately, clean water supplies fall short of the demand, because of following reasons: population expansion, pollution and climate change.
