I stand here today with a challenge for all of you: a challenge that dares each of you to persevere, believe in yourself, to be resilient. I challenge you to overcome the stereotype that a women's place is in the home. At one point in history, this was true but this is no longer the case. You may be shocked, however, to discover that some people still agree with this ridiculous concept. Some still believe that marriage is the ONLY path for women: to be domestic and dutiful. But times have changed. This is the 21st century. We are no longer meek, weak and incapable; we have become strong, independent and powerful. Furthermore, statistics show that by 2017, careers, such as medicine, which were previously thought of as predominantly male will
become female dominated. We, women are competent. We CAN do anything we set our minds to.
But you may be sat there thinking, 'So what? Why should I?’ Well, I will tell you exactly why. Education is the key to success. With persistence, anything can be achieved. You could have the world at your feet, freedom at your fingers, success in your stride. If you try. Forget failure, it is but a doorway to discovery-a portal to future success. How do I know? Well, I was in your position; I worked diligently to chase my dreams and look where it has taken me. I became an astronaut- one of the youngest in the world. So believe me when I say anything is obtainable.
In the wise words of Audrey Hepburn, 'Nothing is impossible; the world itself says "I am possible". So I dare you to seize every opportunity by the hand. Thrive, flourish and succeed. You are all capable of it. Reach for your greatest ambitions because with hard work, determination and conviction, you can succeed. Every single one of you.
