In the story “Overspending: A tale of Christmas Past Essay“ depicts the human nature of most of us in buying lots of stuff to celebrate a holiday like Christmas. We often times get excited to every holiday because of the things we see around us, like the displayed toys on the shelves, good decorations on commercial store, the time off to shop or even the thought of getting good shopping deals etc. There is always the tendency of being excessive during Christmas. Just like the common mistake parents do during holidays. They shower their children with so many gifts. Parents wanted to provide the best as they say. But, they are only showering them with a lot of material stuff, so plenty that at times they get so overwhelmed. The worst thing …show more content…
Business moguls spend a lot of money to advertise their companies’ product. The advertisements they make are usually in the form of writing like brochures, posters, billboards and the like or live stream media such as TV advertisement, fm/ radio advertisement. These advertisements can reach wider scope of consumers. As a consumer, I choose products that other people had already tried and others find it effective, durable, reliable so maybe a good testimony from credible people like doctor, researchers, number of consumers can add to the appeal of the product. On the part of the producer, when people want savings, a comparable list price with other product can be presented as an appeal in product marketing. Likewise for the effectiveness of product, consumers usually look for proof , producer usually include chart or statistics of related information about the product like the number who tried and the satisfaction ratings. Although, sometimes I doubt products’ advertisement, to protect myself on not wasting my money in buying this product, I usually do my own due diligence.     After reading the article “Is the Holiday Season Too Materialistic?” by Amel Saleh, I agree with him because it happens around us. For example, on Christmas each family send gifts to others, they will remove the price tag so nobody will know how much it cost. People should care about spending the great time with their families but not worry about what gifts they should buy. People like the holidays because they know they are going to get presents from others, but they almost forget that holiday is a day that to have great time for hang out. Children expect toys or shoes as their presents from their family on holidays but this is not what holidays should be. This is what I agree with the author, holidays in nowadays are too materialistic. In his article, Amel believes that behind the holiday purely materialistic, and it should have no gifts, but spending time with the one they love and create memories is more important. Most importantly, he explains in December it should be a symbol of a sense of accomplishment, thanks throughout the year and hang out with their families and friends, and the least things should be, is the presents. In Amel’s article he explains that children in the United States are being raised in a culture in which materialism and commercialism run rampant.
