EXPLAIN THE FUNCTION OF RESEARCH IN HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE
Research is a systematic investigation of gathering and examining information in order to set up facts. It can also be explained as finding out about a particular topic for a particular reason. (Wps.prenhall.com, 2014). Research is used in many different settings and it is carried out to gather more accurate information about a particular topic. For example: finding out about the Ebola virus or the designer babies.
The objective of this assignment is to explain the 8 functions of research in health and social care. They are Identify need, Highlight gaps, Plan provision, Inform provision and improve practice, Monitor progress, Aid reflection, Extend knowledge and understanding and finally Topics of contemporary importance.
IDENTIFYING NEEDS
Identifying needs means of finding out what individuals or communities have or do not have in a society. It shows of who might need services or resources and therefore should be a priority. This involves the gathering of a demographic data and to find out a demographic data of a group of people or a community, carrying out a research project, surveys and questionnaires can be used. Demographic data consist of household facts of race, education, income, population, which also includes statistics of abuses, rapes, births, deaths, or diseases and many more. An instance can be finding out a demographic data about a new housing estate being built and in that respect is an arrival of masses from remote area who cannot talk English and also have big households. In this situation, researchers have to determine what age range they are, family size, language spoken, religion, occupation status, setting data, ethnicity, race or whether they sustain a disability. About age range for children, the demands would be school, day care, nurseries or family centre. For the family size, they could have house sized room instead of surviving in overcrowded rooms. In
