PETI-5 Synthesis Lab Report
Since PETI-5 was received dissolved in N-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP), it required further treatment to separate it from the solvent. The PETI-5 dissolved in NMP was reduced to PETI-5 powder by rapid precipitation. The powder was dried in vacuum at 85ᵒC for 48 hours. After that the powder was grounded and dried again. Some of the PETI-5 powder were taken to make plates of neat sample for mechanical testing.

To make composite plate samples with reduced graphene oxide and PETI-5, rGO was added as percent mass and mechanically mixed with PETI-5 powder in a grinder. Once sufficiently mixed, the material was added to an aluminum mold. The PETI-5 material was packed very tightly into the mold to minimize voids in the cured plates. The mold was then

Chemists often find a method to determine the level of “greenness” of a chemical reaction, or its “atom economy”. A higher atom economy is preferable because a greater amount of the reactants will be present in the product as opposed to the byproduct.1 A Suzuki reaction is classified as an organic, coupling reaction that includes boronic acid and a halide that are catalyzed by a palladium complex under basic conditions. Other palladium- catalyzed coupling mechanisms include the Heck and Stille reactions. Palladium typically exists in the oxidation states of 0, +2, and +4. PdCl2 is usually the starting compound for several other heterogeneous palladium catalysts such as Pd/C and Pd/BaSO4.1 Suzuki coupling is an efficient way to…

What are the factors that lead to evolutionary change? Using mathematical equations, Hardy & Weinberg in the early 20th century showed that evolutionary change – measured as changes in allele frequencies in a population from one generation to the next – will not occur unless certain kinds of “evolutionary agents” are affecting the population. The Hardy-Weinberg equation can be used to describe the allele frequencies in populations that are not changing evolutionarily – and also can be used to determine if populations are changing over time.…

When given two equations the goal is to make the equations equivalent to one another. These two equations are equivalent. Two equations are known to be equivalent if they have the same solution set. A solution set is a set of numbers that that solve an algebraic equation. In the first equation, the solution set is {5}. In the second solution set both sides of the equation must be equal. Equal means that both sides are balanced. The equality of addition property states that each side of the equal sign must have the exact same numerical value. On both sides, we have a which is the same “number” or “letter”. Since 5 is on one of the sides 5 must be on the other side due to the equality of addition property. That makes x {5}. Finally, because both of their solution sets are {5}, we know that the two equations are equivalent because they have the same solution set.…

If a species is separated by any means causing a barrier between them they cannot mate with each other causing reproductive isolation, because of the reproductive isolation, natural selection will occur and the species will begin to change. Noting this can take thousand or maybe millions of years. Looking up the example of the polar bear recent studies suggest that polar bears split from a common brown bears 350,000 – 6 million years ago, undergoing a series of evolutionary changes in order to survive in the Arctic. (Polar Bears International,…

The reaction mixture initially was a brown color which then turned a milky white color with the addition of bromobenzene and ether. The mixture turned back to a brown color with the addition of the remaining bromobenzene and ether added at a dropwise rate. The reaction vessel became warm at this point. The mixture then turned a reddish, pink color with the addition of 9.1g benzophenone in 100mL anhydrous ethyl ether. During the reflux the reaction mixture first turned a “pepto bismal” pink color then became a thick white liquid/solid. When the sulfuric acid was added the solution turned a yellow…

The swift and relentless Fall of France came as a great shock to the established world of 1940. France, in all her glory, had always been a European powerhouse, the only to rival Britain. The Fall of France was a pivotal loss for the Allied forces as it knows provided Nazi Germany the ability to launch an assault on Britain and provided the Nazis control of the coast of most of the coast of Europe. The Fall of France can be attributed to the effectiveness of Germany tactics, specifically Blitzkrieg and the Manstein Plan, the French were out gunned still suffering from the crippling Depression and due to poor leadership from the high command of the military.…

History is marked by specific periods; which illustrates the cultural, economic, religious, and educational setting of the time. One such era is the Middle Ages or Medieval Period. This period that dates from around 850-1400, was defined by the “Italian Renaissance humanist, Francesco Petrarch, who coined the term Middle Ages to describe the period in European history from the end of the Roman Empire until his own time, the 1300s”. There were many changes that occurred during this span in history; such as the development of cities and the marketplace, which allowed some people to obtain financial wealth and move into a new social bracket. This redistribution of the pecking order was a source of distress for some medieval Europeans, therefore, the need to determine a new class structure arose. As a result, medieval intellects classified the different sets of people; “those who pray (monks), those who fight (nobles), and those who work (peasants)”. This new caste system put people’s minds at ease because “they asserted that the three orders had been established by God and that every person had been assigned a fixed place in the social order”. However, the three social categories did not include women of the middle ages, who were important fixtures of the time.…
