Pablo Picasso's Three Musicians
The first reaction to the Three Musicians piece, is that it is a very distinctive style and linear. It puts off an energetic bright feeling. The colors used are very warm with only cool and dark colors used to seemingly describe the characters within. The texture seems very unique and helps with the style of the shapes. The piece is representational and asymmetrical in balance. Colors, texture, lines, spacing, just about all the elements are used in this work to create the mood of this painting. Implied lines are used to help create the images of the people being depicted. It was likely an open palette used, and each color is used to help balance and define the rest of the painting. Warm colors are very dominate in this piece and are very important in the meaning. The positive shapes are three men playing music each with different roles. The negative shapes are surrounding them appearing to be a box or room.

I believe the unity is in the meaning and their actions. There is no distinctive imagery used as unity that I can see. The point of emphasis is the guitar player in the middle. The clothing of the outside characters leads you into the middle where the guitarist is wearing plaid, very colorful clothing. I believe the meaning of this to Picasso is that people of very different walks of life can come together with such a simple idea or action. In this three very different looking characters are enjoying playing music together despite their differences that once may have influenced them to think they had nothing in common at one point. The artist likely thinks of the world as a very unique place with tons of different influences, but similarities across the board no matter who you are. I would think this also depicted his life in some ways and had sentimental meanings of its own to Picasso. The format is easily described because it's during a time when Picasso was into collage style or overlapping images or colors. It came during his Synthetic Cubism stage in

The art piece is representational, the lines are sharp and there are various and different shapes. The texture is smooth and there has been more than one colour that has been used in the painting. The tone shows that the sun is on him even though there is no sun shown in the portrait. Space and depth has been used as you can tell the objects are further away and the ones that are closer up and in detail.…

Wiley’s piece communicates stability with straight horizontal and vertical lines. For example, in the young African-American man his broad shoulders, attire and unfamiliar posture challenges the viewers. Overall, it communicates a sense of power and authority. Wiley also challenges the traditional law of space. The space is shallow. The overlapping of flowers on the male figure stands out with a light blue background. It gives the male figure an illusion of height and width. Wiley shows ranges of blue tones in his jeans and brown tones in his skin. The painting has both primary and secondary colors; such as, the yellow and orange in his shirt and the red hat he’s holding in his left hand. Also, in the background he uses yellows, blues, greens and reds in the flowers. His painting has many highlights; for example, the highlights in the male figures right hand and arm, chin and neck, right pants leg, the hat and the top of his shoes. In addition, there are also many cast shadows; such as, in the males figures left pants leg, top of the hat, inside his right arm and the whole right side of his face. Wiley manipulates the paint to create visual texture of baggy, more ridged and tapered look in male figures pants. The floral motif exemplifies a feeling of movement all over and a natural pattern that are not exactly alike. When you look at this painting,…

The first section of the concert was the most delightful and satisfying to listen to. The violins and woodwinds were the main melody for most of the piece. Both instrument made the texture of the beginning very calm and satisfying by playing legato notes that gradually crescendo/decrescendo. The texture made me to feel relaxed and at ease. I would describe the text painting as a calm ocean, the feeling of drifting in calm water. Half way through the piece, the clarinets and flutes began to follow the entire orchestra and its smooth tempo, which inevitably became louder and more powerful near the end of the piece.…

As I walked around with a copy of this piece in my school bag for a week or so, I often thought about what I could possibly say about this painting/artist. Also during this time, I shared this painting with a couple of people, and asked them what they thought of the piece without telling them what it depicted. One individual stated, “They look sad about something.” Another individual stated, “The people appeared shame for some reason.” Then I informed them what the piece was and they wanted to look at it again, they were quite impressed with the work after they realized what it was about.…

This painting depicts a girl with her body turned to the left side, with her head in her hands. The lines created by the girls back and arm create strong vertical lines in the composition, and the curvy lines are the brush strokes of her hair and dress. Colours used are neutral shades of black and grey for her hair and dress, navy blue in the background, and white for the skin. The texture of the paint on the artwork looks soft, created by the warm colours of different shades showing through the grey layer, and the lines with her hair and arms. The dark warm colours of the negative space focuses on the centre of attention of the girl, with her head in her hands.…

The scoring on the surface of the sculpture shows the scars and the pain this man is under. The artwork is not colourful. This piece has dark hue brownish-black as the base of the sculpture, on top of it there are a tint of green and brown shades. Theres is also the use of value by creating brightness and light in the mens stomach region and the middle of his shield, which conveys a sense of power and strength. Meanwhile, the mens left knee and shoulder are dark, conveying a sense of sadness and foreboding. The bright intensity is used in the sculpture to show strength and dominance. For example the middle of the shield and the stomach region are bright which convey the strength the men is putting on. The dull intensity is used to create a serious mood for example, the mens left leg and eyes are showing the seriousness of this piece where he is in extreme amount of pain and some fear. The green and brown colours have been used to highlight and feature certain areas of the sculpture. For example the bottom of the rib, right knee and left cheek have a bright brown shine to them to show the outer areas. The left rib and arm have a tint of…

Scored for scored for oboe, bass clarinet, piano and four percussionists this piece has a unique texture due to the placement of the notes and how the different timbres of the instruments connect as oppose the actual orchestration. The notes actually flow seemingly as one coherent linear piece made up of many notes to give it a smooth texture if we listen to the piece as a collective, as opposed to a more rigid texture if we tune into its the nuances.…

First of all, the Quintet Op.87 is a masterpiece; the first movement (Allegro E Risoluto Assai) at once captives and impresses the hearer with its power and passion. After this follows the Menuetto Y Trio, Largo, Allegra Agitato, is full of light-hearted merriment and ends with a brilliant and effective close. While listening to it, the melody reminded me of Mozart’s pianistic style and The Trout, which would be performed just next to it and, actually, Hummel studied with Mozart. Especially, the first movement of Quintet, OP.87 sounded like tango to me and it started with the violin by Alyze Dreiling, then, the piano sounded to make harmony. I felt that the piano sound was extremely live and rhythmical, whereas, the others created nervous tension for making harmony with the piano. As I said above, everything including Violin, Viola, Cello and Contrabass seemed to be harmony with another, the sound reflected to be able to emphasize each instrument and piano quintet. The second movement, Menuetto Y Trio, Allegro con fuoco, started quietly but, soon, it made a highly elated atmosphere which I was going into…
