a. Who is the leader? Micro: One person heading a group, team, or department Macro: A person heading a whole organization with a variety of titles (president, CEO, COO); Top Management Team (MT; governance body such as board of directors
b. What is the scope? Micro: Small group, team, or department Macro: Entire organization
c. Where is the primary focus? Micro: Internal Macro: Internal and External
d. What are the effectiveness criteria? Micro: Productivity; quality; employee satisfaction and motivation; turnover; absenteeism Macro: Stock prices and other financial measures; overall performance; stakeholder satisfaction
2. Explain the concept of top management team TMT and what dynamics influence its composition
a. A TMT is made up of division heads and vice presidents. Any of these individuals or groups might be the senior executives who make strategic choices for the organization. The characteristics of the TMT are the following: degree of globalization, the success of turnaround strategies in an organization that face performance challenges, corporate social responsibilities, and other financial performance measures.
3. List and explain the six strategic forces impacting senior leadership style
a. Culture: defined as a common set of beliefs and assumptions shared by members of an organization
b. Structure: is comprised of the basic design dimensions and that organize that organize the human resources of an organization
c. Strategy: address how the organization will get where it wants to go- how will it achieve its goals
d. Environment: includes all the outside forces that may potentially shape the organization
e. Technology: the process by which inputs are transformed into outputs
f. Leadership: Includes managers and supervisors of all levels
