Research Proposal Paper
1.My Topic
The topic I want to research for my paper is Pancreatic Cancer.
2. What I Already Know
I know that this is a cancer of the pancreas, which is an organ in the human body. I do not know a lot about the cancer or the actual organ itself. Though I have been affected by pancreatic cancer personally; my aunt was diagnosed with this cancer and later passed away from it. Through this experience, I saw that this cancer acts very fast and is very intense. My aunt was diagnosed in the beginning of November 2010 and was taken away at the end of December 2010. I remember each week she got worse and worse as the cancer progressed; the cancer made her very …show more content…
weak near the end and she was unable to function normally. I could see the different things the cancer did to her physically and emotionally. It changes the whole appearance of the person affected and tests the mental stability of the person effected.
3. What I Want to Learn
I want to learn many things about this cancer.
First, I would like to learn about the pancreas as the organ. I do not know what that organ does or what it is used for. Second, I would like to learn why this cancer is so fast acting and powerful; I wonder why this cancer can take someone away in as short as a month. Third, I want to learn what the treatment is like for this cancer, and what is done to try and treat patients with this specific cancer. Also, I know how it feels to have a loved one affected by this cancer and tragically taken away but I want to learn about the survivors of this cancer. Survivors of any type of cancer are so amazing to me, but for this cancer I want to hear from someone who beat this cancer and what it was like going through the treatment and how their life after the cancer is …show more content…
like.
4. The Origins of My Research
The reason I have an interest in this topic for my research paper is because of my aunt.
My aunt and I were very close throughout my whole life, but she was diagnosed later in her life with pancreatic cancer. I was affected by this because of how close we were and how much time I had spent with her; she was like a second mother to me. Losing her to this cancer was devastating and really hard on our whole family. Ever since her death in 2010, I had been curious about this pancreatic cancer. Researching this topic is very important to me because I want to learn more about this cancer and get a better understanding of what goes on when one who is diagnosed. This paper will not only educate myself about the cancer, but will educate others as well.
5. Questions I Have About Pancreatic Cancer
1. What is the Pancreas used for in the body as an organ?
2. Why is this specific cancer so fast acting and powerful?
3. Does everyone who is diagnosed with pancreatic cancer get taken away in as short as 1 to 2 months?
4. How does pancreatic cancer begin? How is one diagnosed?
5. What kind of treatment is done when an individual has pancreatic cancer?
6. What is the percentage of people that survive this cancer?
7. Is this cancer rare or a more common form of cancer?
8. What do survivors say about this cancer? What is life like after?
9. I know how it feels to have a loved one affected by pancreatic cancer, but what do other families affected by this have to say?
10. Is this an expense on a
family?
6. My Research Plan To start my research paper, I will first look at the questions I have about pancreatic cancer. I will see what I have to answer and begin to look at official websites on the internet to get the answers to my questions. I need to look up what the pancreas is and what the organ does for the human first to get a basic understanding so I can understand the cancer itself. I also need to look up percentages of survivors and how common this specific cancer is. A lot of my questions will hopefully be able to be answered through official websites, and if not I will look at books in the library to get accurate information. Overall, I want to get the answers I am curious about and need to know about pancreatic cancer; I want to get in depth with the facts about this cancer.
