Paper On Horses
"Horses were first used over 5,500 years ago on the plains of northern Kazakhstan." Taming horses have changed history with travel, agriculture, and warfare. They are fast, agile, and wonderful companions. There are many people in the world who own some of these wonderful creatures, but there are still free roaming horses out in the wild. There is more than 400 different breeds of horses however, the most famous and well known breeds are the Fjord, Shire, and Arabian.

One of the oldest breeds horses are the Fjord horses that originated from western Norway. "In 1980, it was decided that five colors shall be acknowledged as the typical colors of the Fjord horse." Those five colors are brown dun, red dun (chestnut), gray, white, and yellow. Their life span is about 20-25 years with a weight of 880-1210 pounds. They are strong enough for heavy farm work such as plowing or pulling timber, but also fast enough to be a riding and driving horse. Their fur coat is more thicker than most horses as a result of their cold climate of their homeland.

"Most Arabian horses are about 56 to 62 inches in height and weigh about 800 to 1000 pounds." Their average colors are bay, grey, chestnut, and black. Bay, grey, and chestnut are the most common colors for an Arabian horses to have. Black is the least common fur color for Arabians. Every Arabian horse has a thin layer of black fur to protect their skin from the hot desert sun.
