Yamane (1967:886) provides a simplified formula to calculate sample sizes. This formula was used to calculate the sample sizes in Tables 2 and 3 and is shown below. A 95% confidence level and P = .5 are assumed for Equation 5.

Where n is the sample size, N is the population size, and e is the level of precision. When this formula is applied to the above sample, we get Equation 6.

NURSES COMPRISE THE MAJORITY OF THE HUMAN HEALTH MANPOWER IN THE HOSPITAL. WITH THE FAST TURNOVER RATE OF NURSES DUE TO DIASPORA IN SEARCH FOR BETTER OPPORTUNITIES ABROAD, MANY HOSPITALS IN THE PHILIPPINES HAVE CLOSED DUE TO MANPOWER INSUFFICIENCY. ST. JUDE GENERAL HOSPITAL AND MEDICAL CENTER, A TERTIARY, 100 BED CAPACITY, PRIVATE INSTITUTION IS NOT SPARED FROM THIS PERENNIAL PHENOMENON AS IT EXPERIENCES 2 NURSES RESIGNING PER MONTH WHICH CAN BE TRANSLATED TO 49% TURNOVER RATE IN A YEAR.
THIS STUDY WAS CONCEPTUALIZED TO EVALUATE THE DETERMINANTS OF JOB CONTENTMENT AND THE LEVEL OF JOB SATISFACTION OF NURSES IN THE AFOREMENTIONED HOSPITAL USING A SURVEY QUESTIONNAIRE AND HERZBERG'S HYGIENIC-MOTIVATIONAL FACTORS OF JOB SATISFACTION. THE SCALE IS COMPRISED OF 5 DIMENSIONS OF MOTIVATIONAL FACTOR WHICH INCLUDE COMPANY AND ADMINISTRATIVE POLICIES, SUPERVISION, SALARY, INTERPERSONAL RELATIONS, AND WORKING CONDITIONS ; AND 5 AREAS OF HYGIENIC FACTORS WHICH ENCOMPASS WORK ITSELF, ACHIEVEMENT, RECOGNITION, RESPONSIBILITY AND ADVANCEMENT. A CROSS SECTIONAL STUDY DESIGN, BOTH DESCRIPTIVE AND ANALYTICAL USING WEIGHTED MEAN AND PEARSON CORRELATION WERE UTILIZED.
THE STUDY ELUCIDATED THE FACTORS FOR JOB SATISFACTION AND DISSATISFACTION OF NURSES. IT CONCLUDED THAT NURSES ARE GENERALLY SATISFIED WITH BOTH HYGIENIC (OVERALL MEAN=3.486) AND MOTIVATIONAL (OVERALL MEAN= 3.849)
