Parent Involvement In Sheridan

During my time in Sheridan there were many different things that were insightful and important to take note of. Teaching is a profession that requires being in the classroom observing and being a part of. Being in the classroom is a completely different experience than learning about parent involvement through reading a book. One of the most insightful things I learned during my time in Sheridan was how parent involvement impacts the classroom.. Parent involvement can happen in a variety of different ways and during the previous two weeks in Sheridan I learned how important this involvement is. First of all, the classroom has a variety of different obstacles that impact the classroom and parent involvement is one variable that impacts the classroom. The interaction between the parents and teachers includes a variety of different variables that impact the classroom. The IEP lasted around an hour and include a lot of information that was given to the parents. My mentor teacher stated each IEP is different depending on the parent, some parents are in denial while other parents are prepared for what is said at the meeting. During the IEP, the parent was prepared for the information the teacher said. Teachers need to be aware of how they approach these types of meetings and how they state the different issues. Parents provide a lot of important information about their child and as teachers we need to take this information and use it to the best of our ability. For example, the parent talked about how they use a to do list at home to keep the child on task, which is something the special education teacher was going to use in the future.
