Cda Competency Goal 6
Temico Singh Competency Goal VI To maintain a commitment to professionalism, I understand that communication is important. Not just with the children and other teachers, but with the parent’s as well. I feel that the parents are the primary teachers and I am the secondary teacher. Good communication can help with earning the parents trust as well as their participation and support. This also allows me to inform the parents of their child’s daily activities, development, and any problems or concerns I may have, and it also allows the parents to feel comfortable enough to express any concerns or suggestions they may also have. As a professional, I promote child development and learning. I meet the children where they are and build off where they are individually not just developmentally because every child is different; and just because a child is not at the same level as another child doesn’t mean that they are not accomplishing anything. I praise every milestone regardless of how big or small, and I encourage the parents to do the same. …show more content…
I would need to make sure that the classroom is arranged properly, so that there are hands on activities such as, sand and water table, craft and writing, puzzles and games, and block areas for the children. I would also have to make sure that these areas were arranged so that the children could go in and out of them safely. I help them choose activities that best meet all of the children’s abilities. During mealtime I also participate in helping the children, I make sure that they are washing their hands before and after each meal and or snack. The children also assist in setting the table during this time I instruct them to keep all food and utensils on the table and encourage them to use all the utensils instead of their hands. I sit at the table with them and model appropriate mealtime behavior and

I do my part to maintain a well run purposeful program, responsive to participant needs. On their first day in our program, I make an effort to meet and greet our clients, the parents as well as the children. I ask the parents if they need any special requirements, accommodations or modifications to better service their children. I also ask the children which games they enjoy, and see if they have any questions for me about the program. This gives them an opportunity to know we have familiar activities that they are used to, gives them a chance to share their fears and worries about the program, and they also to get to know me a little better. With this information from the children, parents and our director, the counselors and I work together as planners, getting our weekly schedules for the children and taking turns delegating the activities. We come up with our own plans and put them together to form a enriched learning program.…

E1) As a practitioner, you would be expected to form professional relationships with many different people within the setting. In a childcare environment there may be a child who has behavioural problems, effective communication would then need to take place with a behavioural therapist in order to ensure the child has their individual needs met. As a practitioner it is highly recommended that they should develop high standards of communication, as it is required in all aspects of working with children. Communicating with the child’s parents is very important, and because the parents are the child’s first educator/main carer, it is important that their wishes are met and understood. As part of skill to be able to communicate effectively with parents, it is necessary to build up trust within that professional relationship because; the parent might not feel comfortable talking about a problem with the practitioner and this might affect the child badly if it’s based on them. When building up trust in a professional relationship it is important to be honest and specific when speaking to parents, so they understand your point of view or what you’re talking about. Keep the child’s parents informed of any meetings, events, child’s progress, any problems and school trips etc… This is good because then the parents know that the practitioner is interested in getting their children into a good experience and enjoy it. If parents are of a different culture or language, the practitioner should provide newsletters and letters to parents in their language to allow them to still be a big part of their child’s education/experience within the setting. All documents should be translated so the parent has easy access and can read them well.…

My goal in my classroom is to set a standard of excellence with in my facility and to commit myself to the growth and development of each child in offering a positive, kind, loving, and safe atmosphere. I have respect, not only for myself but, for my center, each child, and their families. I keep all parental information shared with me confidential. I also uphold all health and safety regulations and make children's well-being my top priority. I remain trustworthy to children parents and staff at the center. I also respect family diversity. This includes but is not limited to cultural differences, orientation, or economic status. I encourage individuality in children. I treat each child with respect and help them to build a positive self- image. Being informed is being ready to assist any child with any need they may have. I feel it is important to always stay positive and keep a smile on your face. Stay on top of new regulations for your center as well as updated laws and other developments within early childhood education. Always make sure you have information to help parents that have children with additional needs your center cannot provide and have contact information readily available for the reporting of any sexual abuse, child abuse, or neglect. I feel I am a kind and loving person and am genuinely concerned about the growth and development of each child entering my center. I want to give them every opportunity to grow and learn in a safe environment. I love working and being around children not just in a group setting but also a one on one setting.…

My first priority is to keep the environment safe to reduce injures. I will take my responsibility very seriously and make sure that there is no child injures at the center. I will make sure that there is no infant left unattended on a changing table. Young infants are only allowed to sleep in their cribs. Not in the car safety seat, bouncy seat, or any other equipment that is not safety approved. Cribs in our facility will be free of blankets, toys and other soft materials that could cause suffocation. All of our facility toys will be large enough to prevent infants from trying to eat or swallow objects that could cause choking. On a daily basis, all toys and equipment will be inspected to make sure they are safe and in working order. Broken toys, chipped wall paint, loose nuts and bolts or splinters from wooden furniture will not be acceptable at any time. All electrical cords and wires in my facility will be tied and out of sight to prevent children from tripping and falling. All of our unused electrical outlets will be covered by safety devices to prevent children from placing objects into the sockets. As a professional I attend regular trainings both in and out of work. Some training is provided for me by my employer, while others I seek out on my own. In June I attended training for 2 weeks before children started attending class. These trainings focused on areas such as health, routines and transitions, environments, goals/objectives and school readiness. One way I apply these trainings is by setting a routine in the classroom and remembering to abide by it, while allowing some flexibility as the children need it. It is important to keep a routine so that the children know what to expect. A routine helps children to stay focused…

I provide a positive relationship with the child through daily routines and interactions allowing growth in in their development of self and others. Each morning I ensure that I greet each child and parent when they arrive. In greeting the child I will always address the child by his/her name and encourage the other children to say good morning. I feel this gives the child and parent a sense of trust and security for a safe and secure environment and this acknowledgment makes the child feel special and welcome in the class. In the mornings I also have open centers where the children can go around and greet the other student and to move and work at their own pace. I also find some way to praise the class and each child daily. I provide opportunities for the children to always feel successful and proud of themselves. All children have different rates of development and different personalities. Knowing this can help us be patient. I show children that I really care about them by accepting each child as an individual. I help children with developing social skills, Self- control, problem-solving skills, and the ability to act independently.…
