Team "A" Parental Rights and Roles
Parents have many right and roles when concerning the raising of children. There are the political stands points of view, there are educational views, and there are parental rights and roles. The common topic in many households is how to raise children properly and correctly. This paper will explain the rights and roles for parents, how involved is the government, and what choices do parents have for the education of their children, if they have any rights at all. These are just some of the topics that will be covered in this paper.
Political Point of View
There are laws set in place to protect the parents’ rights and the child’s wellbeing. Sometimes these laws and regulations can mix-up the rights and roles of the parents. Parent’s are responsible for the health and safety of our children, it is the government’s responsibility to make sure that parents are providing for their children. If parents are not deemed fit to take care of their children, Child Protective Services or CPS can step in taking the children away until it is proven the parent will and can take care of and provide for them. Sometimes a person outside the family can perceive children are in danger when in actuality they are not. Although laws are set to protect our children, sometimes the can do harm to a family if they are accused falsely and with malice from another source.
When does the government go too far? “A thirteen year old boy in Washington State was removed from his parents after he complained to school counselors that his parents took him to Church too often” (Parental Rights, n.d.). The boy was told by the counselors at school to call CPS for which he did. CPS stepped took the child from the home, a judge made the parents agree that the boy did not have to go to
