W1.1: The provider must take necessary steps to safeguard and promote the welfare of children in the setting.
1) What dose safeguarding children’s mean?
Safeguarding the children is my responsibility as being a registered childminder give me a legal responsibility to be able to safeguard the child/ren in my care in line with procedure laid out in LONDON CHILD PROTECTION PROCEDURE 3RD EDITION. to the REDBRIDG CHILD PROTECTION ASSESSMENT TEAM. 2) What information will you need to gain from parents before you start caring for a child? * Child’s name * Child’s Date of birth * Child’s special dietary requirements * Language spoken at home * Health Information * Doctor/GP Details * Details of who the child usually lives with * Who has parental responsibility for the child * Who has legal contact with the child * Who may collect the child * Emergency contact numbers * What are the child’s likes and dislikes * If the child has behaviour problem * Adders of child resident * Habits
Need to build a good relationship with the child and the parent from the first time we meet each other. I do understand the needs of the parent’s and child. I do have the understanding of recorded confidentiality of all child records. The records must be kept in a safe place at all times and I must not use the information given by the parents with anyone else without permission for the parents. Would need written permission from the parents.
2a) How will you ensure information remain confidential?
Being a childminder it is down to me to make sure that I will keep all information confidential that is relating to the child but will share it with social services and Ofsted as well as the police if requested. 3) How will you keep children safe indoors, outdoors and on outings?
How will you enable children to become independent and still keep themselves safe?
Make sure there are no strangers that the child/ren do not now in and around the areas that we are using. Keep all child/ren close by me when out and about.
Indoors – I will make sure all the premises, environment and all equipment is in safe and using condition.
Outdoors- If we are going to the park I will have badges on the child/ren with the name of my setting and the phone number on them.
Make sure the area that the child/ren are playing at is clear of any needless glass alcohol and drugs most of all any strangers that look like up to no good.
I will ensure that I will do role play with the child/ren to teach them how to make them safer and independent at the same time by playing games and doing safety activities with the child/ren makes the child more confident and safe themselves. 4) What are the possible signs/symptoms of child abuse or neglect? What would you do if you suspected a child was being abused? Who should you contact/ share this information with? * Children are most likely to be abused by adults whom they now and trust and most abusing children is done by a men the women dose between 5/10 per. * The signs and symptoms to look out for are unexplained injuries, burses mark’s burns with hot water and cigarette burn’s rope mark’s bit mark’s also injuries that are on parts of the body where accidental injuries are unlikely are on the cheeks, chest and
thighs. * Broken bones most of all in children under the age of 2 years. * Behavioural sings flinching when approached or touched the child. * When a child is all covered up in clothes that are not appropriate for the weather e.g. it may be very hot and child dressed in jumpers, jogging bottoms and a hat and vices verse cold weather the child is wearing t-shirt and shorts. * Sexual abuse shows when a child is in pain, Itching bleeding in genital or on the anal areas. * When the child has stomach pain cannot sit down appropriately and discomfort in areas of the body where not normal for a child at such young age. * Neglect when a child get neglected by parents and sing to that is the child is not cared for e.g. not well kept very dirty and smelly . Child has not been to a doctor for medical treatment, also when the child has had an injury parent has not taken the child to the hospital for medical attended. When a child is always tired and missing school on a regular bases. Child left at home alone, not been feed as required, child stealing or grabbing the food because hasn’t eaten for days. * If at any time of my childminding career I would suspect that a child was being abused at first I would get advice from (CPAT) THE REDBRIGDE CHILD PROTECTION TEAM. Then keep a written rescored about when and where I have suspected the child has been abused. And will approach the parents about any injury’s and burses that the child has and if I am not happy with the explanations about the marks are burses I will then call (CPAT) and make a referral to the Child Protection Assessment Team to help the child & family . Outside of these hours Emergency Duty Team 0208-553-5825 Alternatively the families Information Direct team find 0800-587-7500 will 5) What will be in the complaint policy? What would you do if an allegation was made against you personally, a member of your household, or your services? How will you share your complaints policy and other policies and procedures with parents and cares? * Have put a copy of my complaint policy in to the document if a complaint is made towards me I would like the parent to talk to me about any think and everything about my setting or my services that I provide. And make sure to resolve all matter informally and quickly. But sometimes it may take time to resolve the issue depending on what the problem is.
I will complete a complaints form also the nature of the complaint the action taken and provided them within 28 days and including any action taken. Also let Ofster now of the complaint and seek advices from them.
And take advice from Ofsted and take a break from childminding until complaint is solved. 6) Have you completed a paediatric first aid course? What would you do if a child arrived with an injury or an infection? How will you store and administer medication?
I have not as yet completed my paediatric first aid course.
First I would get parental permission for any medication that has to be given to the child and ask the parent if the child has been given medication and at what time it was given. I will store all medication and the instructions in a clear labelled container high up from the children reach so no children can get to it. 7) What food and drink do you intend to provide? How will you manage this How will you support children with allergies and or specific dietary requirements? How will you know what these are?
Copy of menu/ prepare meal before hand and heat throw when the food is needed. I will prepare all the vegetable / fruit and desserts all to the children needs with any allergies that some children may have. When preparing meal /snack for children I will ask parents to provide the special dietary requirements. I will have full information about each and every child on recorded and I will put each and every child needs in the kitchen in a clear folder to remind me about every child needs.
8) How will you develop children’s understanding about healthy eating and the importance of exercise and fresh air?
Healthy eating for children playing games using different tips of vegetables & fruit coloured foods using 5 a day guide. Which are good for your child? Take the children to the farm so they can pick their own fruit & veggies.
Make meal times fun and get children to make their own sandwiches pizzas and salads also pasta. Throw play and activates like cooking activates
PLAYTIMES going out the garden playing with water, painting all tips of food and a good run-around in the garden or park.
Exercise is a daily routine and all children like outdoor play at least 45 min to 1 hour.
9) My home is a no smoking house hold the is a no smoking environment in and around the setting. On one is allowed to smoke in any rooms or outside the play area. 10) How will you manage children’s behaviour? How will this be agreed with parents? Is a written policy needed for this?
Yes I do have a behaviour policy. If a child has a behaviour problem I will manage it with grate manner all children are different from each other and children behaviour his different from each other to. I will work with the parents in partnership with the child and address the behaviour by using observation records to help us understand the behaviour issues. I will do role play with the children to help behaviour management. I would not threaten any of punishment on the child/ren. I will support the children effectively throw his or her behaviour management. 11) How will you encourage children to make good relationships with adults and their peers? How will you enable children to learn about valuing each other and understanding respecting other cultures and beliefs?

When out and about or in groups different cultural Identifies will be acknowledged then explain to children. 12) How will you support a child for whom English is an additional language but has a good understanding of English and speaks English well?
At first the child may not speak at all I may get a total silent and the child will watch and listen to other children in the activity they are doing.
They may like stories time and music and playing with the toys.
Show them flash cards of different things and colours letters and numbers puzzles activates and most of what the entire child enjoys most of all.
Children who speak and understand English well I will support them in more reading stories role plays outdoor activity bored games puzzles painting est. 13) How will you support a child and their family who have very little understanding of spoken English How will you communicate with the child and their family?
Children and family with language understanding I will support them to the full best of my knowledge and get a family friend or interrupter to help me and the family to reach the child and families needs. I will talk too slowly and spell out the word for them. 14) What do you regard as a significant event about which you would need to inform Ofsted? How would you contact us? * When I need to safeguard a child * When me or any member of my family have allegation against. * When a parent has made a complaint against me. * If a child is at risk of any means then Ofsted will be informer * I will be contacting them by phone or in writing. 15) Q 15 is not applicable to me yet. 16) How will you ensure children are left alone with adults who have not been cleared/vetted such as visitors to your setting / home?
I would not leave the child/ren alone with any or any adult at any time or place. And if I did have visitors e.g. family friends I will explain to them that I would prefer for them to my home after my setting second is over and children have gone home. 17) Consider who lives or works on the premises where children will take place. Have they all had a criminal records bureau check if they need one? Do you need to keep a list of these people?
I and my husband and I have a son aged 10 years old we will get CRB Check because we live on the premises. I have family that came and visit only so they do not need a crb check or a list of people. 18) What events if any do you need to inform us about and how would you do this? * When a childminder has had a complaint * When a childminder what a child to be safeguarded * Any changes made to you home e.g. building work extension of your home. 19) Do you drink alcohol?
No I do not drink alcohol we do have alcohol on owner premises it is kept up high in a cubed and you need a chair to reach up to get access to the alcohol. 20) Do you take any medication?
Yes I do take medication it is * METFORMIN 500MG TWO TIMES A DAY * VILDAGLIPTIN 50MG ONE A DAY * ROSIGLITAZONE 8MG ONE A DAY
No I do not think by taking this medication will affect the way I will meet the needs of the children in any way. And all my medication is kept high up in a cubed and only an adult can reach it. 21) What experience and qualifications if applicable? I have my EYFS childminding training. 22) What adult child ratios apply to the service you are applying to be registered for? How will you ensure these ratios are maintained?
Home work childminder 06 months to 16 years home environment ,one to one EYFS child care. 23) If you are a childminder registered on EYFS register and the childcare registers how the staffing does arrangements differ for each register and how will you manage this if you work with any assistants?
N/A work alone home environment. 24) Will you be offering overnight care? No only child care in the day. 25) How will you meet the requirements to complete and maintain a risk assessment for your setting? How would this differ if you were going on an outing? What should be covered in the risk assessment? Should the risk assessment be recorded if so how do you intend doing this?
Make sure I go around the setting before the children arrive in the morning and check every think is in place and is all in working order clean and tide and there aren’t any problems.

Always take the risk assessment in to action for the safety and welfare of the children. 26) What recourses and equipment do you know you will need to meet the individual children needs?
A parent should give me full information on their child individual needs as the parent knows their child better than anybody else. 0-1 Year Play mat, soft toys, music toy, toy mobile. 1-3 Years puzzles, books building blocks, all kind of toys.
3-5 years dressing up, puzzles, card games reading books, play dough, cooking activity.
5-8 years will, board games, 30 mines on the computer card games.
27) What is your understanding of what you need to do in respect of notifying us about changes to your premise?
Phone Ofsted and report any changes being made to the setting as in building construction works.
Also any new member of the family gets their CRB CHECK.
