Parker’s back
In the story parker’s back the author reveals, the contradiction of the holy woman and the man that is prevailed to be the sinner. I feel that Parker grew from a boy to a man without realizing the inner changes he made. Parker is characterized as a ladies man that is covered in tattoos and swears a great deal. From a young age he is rebellious and doesn’t commit to anything. I believe that as a boy Parker thought foolish things such as tattoos, drinking, swearing, fighting and having many woman where fulfilling. Although he and his wife led different lifestyles; her aggressiveness and passion for god began to change Parker from a boy to a man. Sarah was “holy” she didn’t swear, “paint her face” or drink. Sarah was characterized as abusive and she clearly was the dominant one of the relationship. On their first encounter, she slaps Parker across the face because of his swearing. Sarah didn’t except parker’s tattoos and refused to look at them when he attempted to show her. I believe that in an attempt to impress and gain respect from Sarah, Parker got the tattoo of a Byzantine Christ. Parker didn’t realize the inner change he made, but the Christ tattoo didn’t only represent what he did to impress his wife but also showed that he had changed as a person. In the story, parker says he’s not happy in the relationship but he goes home to his wife every night. This makes me feel that he truly has changed because a boy would run away instead of sticking around and trying to make the person you committed to happy. Although Sarah didn’t swear, “paint her face”, or have tattoos she is a sinner because in the end she acted in a violent outrage and beat the Christ that lay on parkers
