In the movie “ Mcfarland “, Other characters also succeeded in life. “ Mcfarland “ Is about a white family, that moves into a Hispanic area. Jim white, the father/coach, saw potential in some of the boys in his gym class. He then later in the movie, encouraged them to do cross country. There were some ups and downs during the process of it, but due to the opportunity the boys took, the outcome after it all was great.
For the authors, Alexie and Caro’s Commentary about the value Opportunity is that Junior and The team mates can both relate to each other because they all had opportunities to do something …show more content…
outside of the box, and out of there comfort zone which made all of them into better people.
In the book “The Absolutely True Diary of a Part- Time Indian ” Junior had an opportunity to go to Reardan, to get a better education, but faced some difficult times from his people and other people.
.“ If I don’t go now, I never will. I have to do it now. “ You’ll be the first person to ever leave the rez this way. The indians around here are going to be angry with you ” (Alexie 46). In this quote, it shows how junior win something, but also lose something in that situation. In the movie “ Mcfarland ”, Coach Jeryl White had an opportunity to coach the Hispanics into cross country. He then asks some of the faster boys in his gym class to run cross country. Both of these evidences support to the thesis because they are explaining the opportunities and how it changed everyone’s
life. Another Reason that connects to this thesis is where these opportunities take these kids. Ever since Junior Attended Rearden, He has expanded his horizon and tried out for basketball. “ Good job he said, and offered his fist. “ I was a warrior… and that’s when i knew was going to make the team.. I ended up on varsity “ (Alexie 142). In this part of the book it shows the readers that Junior grew some courage and eventually made it on the varsity team. During the movie, ever since the Mexican kids tried out for cross country, they had good outcomes. In the movie, Once they ran a couple of races, they got better due to the coach pushing them. During one scene, Once they were placed in fourth, They had an opportunity to go to state. I think that both of these evidences support the thesis because of how good the outcome was after the goal was accomplished in both scenarios. In the end of the book , Junior ends up loving reardan. He makes forever friends, and has found his passion for basketball. If Junior had not attended that school, He wouldn’t of tried out for sports. “ … We didn’t lose another game in the regular season and were ranked number one in the state as we headed into playoffs “(Alexie 196). Just as the movie was coming to an end, In one of the scenes at state, Jim felt down about the race due to a heavier runner not being able to finish the race. In the end, He finished before other runners. Jim and his teammates ended up winning state. Overall, The smallest opportunities in life can turn into something large.
