an error in the analysis of the original testing that was done.
This case would have came to an accurate conclusion had the case been treated with more thorough analysis and patience.
When Patricia’s 2ndchild was born he was diagnosed with MMA. A rare metabolic disease that has similar symptoms to what Ryan was having before he passed. There is a compound found in MMA that could have been misidentified as ethylene glycol called propionic acid. These two chemicals have similar characteristics such as both being colorless, combustible and moderately toxic if ingested or absorbed. These two chemicals can be easily mixed up, especially when one is expecting to find ethylene glycol and not knowing of the possibility of another substance being present. The handling of the blood work is also very susceptible to human error. The laboratory used to originally test Ryan’s blood used a method called GC-MS, which its accuracy on results depends strongly on the technician’s skill and interpretation of data. Further testing was done on a sample of Ryan’s blood and our
suspicions were confirmed, that propionic acid was indeed mistaken for ethylene glycol. The same tests were done with 7 different labs and they all came back the same, it resulted that few labs using the GC-MS method could reliably determine the presence of ethylene glycol. World Renowned genetics expert, Dr. Piero Rinaldo also concluded that Ryan’s death was caused by MMA and not ethylene glycol poisoning. Many other experts also scrutinized the original tests done on his blood and were said to be too inadequate to place someone in prison for life. Evidence explaining how the calcium oxalate crystals were found was also present. The treatment that Ryan was receiving for the suspected ethylene glycol poisoning was in fact making his condition with MMA worse. The ethanol treatment used on him worsened his condition because the excess ethanol exposure in his blood increased the production of calcium oxalate that causes calcium deficiency in the blood, damaging vital organs like the brain and kidneys.
In conclusion the evidence found supporting my client’s innocence is more than enough to set her free from behind bars. The statistics and many trials show no possible error in the results of the blood work. World-renowned professionals and experts have concluded the initial testing a failure and unjust.
